记住:不是 什么 you think that matters; it’s how you express 和 support it! 在这个车间, students will learn how to express their opinions through concise thesis statements 和 support them with strong claims. Students will be provided with examples of strong 和 weak thesis statements, guided through the planning process in creating a thesis statement, 和 have an opportunity to practise writing their own.
To write a successful essay almost always requires skilled reading. 在这个车间, students will be introduced to different reading strategies for academic texts. They will engage in texts directed at the beginner-college level (level 100 courses) 和 answer different comprehension questions. Students will be shown how to infer meaning from a sentence, break down a text into underst和able parts, 和 identify key parts of a text.
This workshop is intended for students who have a basic preliminary reading comprehension level but need further assistance in grasping more advanced academic texts. Students will be provided with the tools needed to dissect complex readings, tackle difficult vocabulary, 和 解释 抽象的文字.
Students often struggle with how to use other authors’ words in their own work. 在这个车间, students will be shown 和 practise paraphrasing exercises, identify different instances of plagiarism in example papers, 和 practise writing a brief response to an article by applying the correct paraphrasing 和 citation methods they have been taught.
